Name: Sabin Rene Figaro
Japanese Name: Macias "Mash" Rene Figaro
Born: August 16
Weight: 233 lbs.
Special Skill: Blitz
Sabin Rene Figaro, Edgar's younger twin brother, is first introduced at Mt. Koltz when he defeats Vargas and joins the party. Terra describes him as a bodybuilder, and Sabin hesitantly takes it as a compliment.
The main events of Final Fantasy VI don't directly affect Sabin; for the most part, he's simply along for the ride, but he makes it a fun ride. Sabin is mostly there because his brother needs him.
A martial arts expert, Sabin is one of the strongest characters in the game. He uses blitzes taught to him from ten years that he spent with a martial arts trainer named Duncan, and he learns his own moves as he goes along. If you equip him with the right items, and if you use his blitzes correctly, Sabin has the potential to be the strongest character in the game. However, contrary to popular opinion, his strength isn't all that's good about Sabin.
Sabin is funny, he's smart, he's caring, and he has a sense of responsibility. With that in mind, it's what's in Sabin's back story that makes Sabin an important character. A turn of events brought Sabin's fate to rest on a coin toss, and with its decision he went wandering on the outskirts of Figaro for ten long years.
When his brother and kingdom get in trouble, though, Sabin is quick to join the Returners to fight for what is important to him.
Sabin is hands down my favorite character in Final Fantasy VI. I think I'm one of like three who like him, though, and it's a shame because Sabin is an amazing character to use in-game, his story is incredibly interesting, and my favorite thing about him – he's a character with heart. He not only cares about his kingdom and twin brother Edgar; he cares about Cyan, Gau, and others as well.
